About Me

Welcome to my corner of the internet. Here's a bit about me.

I love stories, big ones and little ones. All of life is a story made up of smaller stories. Here are some of mine:

The beautiful part of Canada known as British Columbia is my home. I was born and raised here and consider it my home. It's large, and I've lived in various places within it. Beyond that I went to college in Saskatchewan, studied Spanish in Texas, and lived for 21 years in Ecuador, a South American country that straddles the equator. I love to travel and explore the world.

My husband and I drove from our home on Vancouver Island on the west coast across to Canada's easternmost point, Cape Spear, Newfoundland and Labrador, soaking in the sights and sounds along the way. I can also say I've been immersed in the Arctic Ocean. One summer we drove to Tuktoyaktuk, in the Northwest Territories. Getting into a kayak is not my strength and on one attempt I fell into the cold northern ocean, suffering no ill effects other than being chilled.

Throughout my life I have read voraciously, from The Bobbsey Twins and Nancy Drew to the Chronicles of Narnia, Anne of Green Gables, and books too numerous to mention. Cozy mysteries, high drama and adventure, and stories about people's lives and loves now and in the past fill my bookshelves. All my reading led me to writing. I loved writing stories and poems in my elementary and high school classes. Writing a book seemed daunting, a dream I kept to myself for many years.

I write to express the beauty and grace of a life of faith. The mundane and the dramatic events of life are filled with God's goodness and glory. I am moved by the sight of a Great Blue Heron picking its way along the shoreline, by the scent of wisteria filling my garden for a few short weeks, and the sound of children playing. I am a wife, a mother, and a grandmother. A teacher, gardener, sewist, cook, and writer. I love making things and making them beautiful.

My first book, Life is Short but Wide, a memoir, has been recently published. It's the story of an ordinary woman who experienced ordinary and extraordinary things while living in Ecuador. It's a story of an often fearful and anxious person was able to survive and thrive through her faith in her extraordinary God. My life's details may look different than yours, but ultimately, the emotions of human existence are consistent throughout history and geography.

I invite you to join me here. Join me here. I'm not yet certain how this space will work, but come along with me as I figure it all out.
